The clinic was founded by Sarah Campbell, PA-C, whose own journey reshaped the direction of her medical career. When Sarah first became a PA, she never imagined she would one day open a functional medicine clinic. Her perspective shifted when she sought answers for her children’s health concerns and witnessed firsthand the impact of functional medicine. Witnessing their transformation, she felt the Lord calling her to bring this same hope and healing to her community. Sarah partnered with Paul Chaney, MD, and they combined their diverse backgrounds to focus on the root causes of disease. Amy Nold, PA-C, who is an expert in women’s health also provides functional medicine services at the Waco and Corsicana locations.

Not everyone needs a full, in-depth workup and treatment plan, which is why our sister clinic, Natural Primary Care, was founded—to provide natural options for everyday health concerns. But for those facing more complex issues, such as autoimmune conditions, hormonal imbalances, or who simply want more comprehensive testing and deeper investigation, Waco Center for Functional Medicine is the better fit.

A typical first appointment lasts about an hour and takes a deep dive into each patient’s health story. This includes reviewing current symptoms, past diagnoses, prior testing, childhood history, stressors, and treatments that have already been tried. From there, the provider begins piecing together potential factors that may be contributing to how the patient is feeling. Initial nutrition guidance and recommendations for supplements or medications are given, along with a discussion of testing options that can help uncover the root causes of symptoms. Follow-up visits are typically every 2-3 months and focus on reviewing results, adjusting the treatment plan, and continuing to support the patient’s healing journey.

Currently, we do not offer primary care services {for medication management/recurring prescriptions outside of what we are treating, vaccinations, acute care visits etc.} as we are treating long term health concerns and/or developmental delays. HOWEVER, our sister clinic Natural Primary Care does offer primary care services from newborns on up. Visit their website at www.naturalprimarycarewaco.com.

Functional medicine goes deeper than traditional primary care by looking at your whole health story—from childhood experiences to the present. It takes into account not just physical symptoms, but also the social, emotional, and lifestyle factors that shape your health. We believe God created our bodies with the ability to heal, and our role is to help remove what gets in the way—like stress, toxins, or poor nutrition—while giving your body the support it needs to repair, restore, and thrive.

Yes, we do prescribe medications when they’re needed—but always as one tool among many to support the body’s healing process. We prescribe only if the patient feels comfortable with it, and in many cases, our goal is to eventually reduce or stop certain medications once the root causes are addressed. For example, we often prescribe hormone replacement during peri-menopause and menopause, though we also offer natural alternatives. In some cases, we may use peptide therapy to help the body heal and repair. Our goal is always to create a plan that feels right for each person.

At Waco Center for Functional Medicine, our goal is NOT for you to be on 20 supplements for the rest of your life, but instead to find answers as to why you need these supplements, treat the underlying cause, then identify which lifestyle changes and minimal amount of supplements you need long term for optimal wellness. Once we find and treat the root cause of illness, many clients are able to resume life as usual with minimal dietary changes and only a few daily maintenance supplements.
